Identity continuity

Name history & change-of-name verification

In Mauritius a change of name is authorised by the Attorney-General and registered by the Civil Status Division (section 55, Civil Status Act), with the application published in the Government Gazette. This tool verifies whether a former and a current name are linked through registered civil-status events — for deeds, successions and title continuity.

A change of name is a lawful process. Verification here records linkage evidence only and implies nothing about anyone's motives. A Gazette notice is a public notice of an application — never conclusive evidence of the final registered name.

The verification question

The register cannot be browsed. Verification answers one controlled question: does this former name link to this current name? You may verify your own history (verified account required); verifying another person requires a notary account with a dossier and a consent/authority reference.

Succession — heir identity-continuity schedule (notaries)

For a succession where the deceased or heirs appear under former names: enter each heir's claimed current name and the name on their civil-status record. The platform assembles the evidence chain per heir — registered events, Gazette-only applications, restricted events flagged for notary-only handling — and draws no conclusion: identity continuity is established solely by your recorded confirmation for each heir.

For notaries. Historical deed matching (a 1998 deed in the former name against today's claimed identity) and screening alias expansion are available from your workspace and the API. Deed-match results are evidence for your review — they never amend a deed or establish identity by themselves. Where no record is found in the platform-loaded datasets, absence is not evidence of absence: a manual search of official sources remains required until authorised government integration exists.
